Victory Spring is in full swing. Memorial and celebratory events are taking place around the world, honoring the heroism of the Soviet soldier. Divine Liturgy and a memorial service for the soldiers who gave their lives for their faith and Fatherland were held today at the Glory Memorial in Tiraspol. Archbishop of Tiraspol and Dubossary Sawa conducted the service. The PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky participated in the general prayer.
Clergy and parishioners gathered at the chapel of St. George the Victorious, patron saint of the military, cunstrocted at the memorial complex in 2011. The date of the open liturgy was chosen deliberately: May 6th marks the feast day of the holy great martyr in the Orthodox calendar, and in the calendar of military operations of the Great Patriotic War, it marks the beginning of the final operation, known as the Prague Offensive. It lasted six days and was by no means limited to the liberation of the capital of Czechoslovakia. The 1st, 2nd, and 4th Ukrainian Fronts of the Red Army, overcoming the fierce resistance of a million-strong German force, brought a victorious end to the bloody war with this large-scale operation.
A prayer service on this day was held for the first time last year. The event resonated with Pridnestrovians and visitors to the republic. It was decided that such a service would become a tradition before the Victory Day.
Following the litiya, participants laid flowers at the Eternal Flame, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, military graves, and the pedestals of the monuments located at the Memorial of Glory.
