Presidential decree was signed today on the approval of Vladislav Sokolov as rector of the Pridnestrovian State University named after Taras Shevchenko. He replaced Stepan Beril in the leadership position. The rector is an elective position. The voting of the faculty of the university took place on the 28th of April. The staff members of all departments of the State University – 638 teachers expressed their opinion. 84.5% of the participants in the election event voted for the candidacy of Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Vladislav Sokolov.
The PMR President personally congratulated the elected rector. The meeting was held at the presidential executive office. The Head of the Presidential Administration of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Sergey Belous and the predecessor of the new rector Stepan Beril took part in it. Vadim Krasnoselsky thanked the latter for his contribution to the development of the country's main university and the education sector as a whole. The President noted that not a single generation of students directly links the name of Stepan Iordanovich Beril with Pridnestrovian State University. Vadim Krasnoselsky said that a professional teaching staff was formed under the leadership of Stepan Beril. The importance of the fact was noted that an internal base was created in the republic for obtaining high-quality, competitive higher education. The President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic emphasized the importance of the scientific, pedagogical and organizational activities of Stepan Beril, focusing on the strengthening and development of contacts between Pridnestrovian State University and various universities of other states. The President noted that the change of position does not mean the end of professional activity, assuring that the educational sphere of the republic needs the experience of Stepan Beril.
Stepan Beril in turn thanked for the high appreciation of his merits and expressed his readiness to continue fulfilling the tasks set for him by the country's leadership and society.
Addressing the elected rector with congratulatory and parting words, Vadim Krasnoselsky noted the scientific, pedagogical, managerial and administrative experience that Vladislav Sokolov has, and wished him success in his future activities in a new responsible position. The President noted that Vladislav Sokolov knows and feels the strategy of the Pridnestrovian State University, aiming him at continuing the best traditions of PSU and emphasizing that the scientific and educational base, which has been formed over more than nine decades, should be replenished and strengthened with new achievements. The university community is young people, which means that the university must keep up with the times, the PMR President noted.
Vyacheslav Sokolov assured that he understands the level of responsibility entrusted to him, realizes what place the university occupies in the life of the country and what tasks the team faces. He singled out such areas as education, research activities and the application of its results, the introduction of new developments in various sectors of the national economy, and the education of young people.
Despite the solemnity of the occasion for the meeting, the discussion smoothly turned into a business-like course. The interlocutors discussed plans for the development of the university. The topic of infrastructural transformation of PSU was not left without attention.
