Vadim Krasnoselsky met with the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights

The Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatovic arrived in Pridnestrovie with familiarization visit. The Serbian human rights activist has been the European Commissioner since the beginning of 2018. The Institute as such has existed since 1999. Expressing gratitude to the guests for the visit, Vadim Krasnoselsky emphasized that Pridnestrovie appreciates cooperation with the Council of Europe, especially in such an important area as the protection of human rights. The PMR President noted the attention paid to the republic by representatives of various human rights organizations, emphasizing that Pridnestrovians welcome such an interest and listen to the opinions and recommendations of specialists. Vadim Krasnoselsky spoke about the conditions in which the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic lives and develops, noting that their complexity is due to international non-recognition. At the same time, the PMR President emphasized that Pridnestrovie is a rule of law state in which human rights are strictly respected. The Ombudsman Institute has been operating in the republic on constitutional basis since 2006.

The European Ombudsman, in turn, noted that the main principle of her official activity is that she is the Commissioner for Human Rights for all people, no matter of where these people live and no matter of any kind of political issues that are effecting certain regions. Dunja Mijatovic indicated that during her visit to Pridnestrovie she is covering human rights issues related to the most vulnerable, in her opinion, population groups - children, women, people with disabilities, but also social rights such as access to healthcare and housing.

At the end of the meeting, Vadim Krasnoselsky called it important and productive, noting that a detailed conversation took place during which various issues related to the protection of human and civil rights were raised. The interlocutors exchanged views, voiced proposals for further interaction, agreeing to maintain working contacts.
