The Day of Remembrance and Glory of Internationalist Soldiers is in Pridnestrovie today. The Republic remembers the Afghan war heroes. Soviet troops were withdrawn from the Republic of Afghanistan Exactly 35 years ago – February 15, 1989. Commemorative events are taking place throughout the republic today. A ceremony of laying flowers took place at the monument “Sons of the Fatherland - Soldiers of the Afghan War of 1979-1989”, installed on the Memorial of Glory in the capital. Those who sacredly cherish the memory of the feat of the Afghan warrior gathered in a single formation – fellow soldiers, family members of the deceased, military personnel and future defenders of the Motherland, clergy and public activists, residents of Tiraspol and guests of the city, heads of government and administrative bodies. The PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky took part in the commemorative event.
The memory of the fallen and deceased internationalist warriors and everyone who gave their lives defending the Fatherland, including being far beyond its borders, was honored with a minute of silence. They remembered by name 14 residents of Tiraspol who did not return from the Afghan war. The Pridnestrovian land lost 54 people in it, the Soviet Union – more than 13 thousand soldiers and officers as a whole. Their feat has not been forgotten.
