The PMR Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev informed the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky of progress in organizing the process of obtaining Russian citizenship for Pridnestrovians, pursuant to the decree of the Russian President signed by Vladimir Putin on May 15 of this year. According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, applicants are being registered electronically. 36076 Pridnestrovians are currently registered for Russian citizenship. Applications continue to be received. A test run of the procedure for Pridnestrovians to obtain Russian citizenship under the new rules was conducted. Based on the findings, taking into account the number of requests and existing technical capabilities, a special registration mechanism is being developed. The goal is to minimize the number of documents required by applicants and simplify administrative and bureaucratic procedures. The Pridnestrovian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in constant contact with the Russian embassy and consulate, Vitaly Ignatyev reported. He said that Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Moldova Oleg Ozerov is currently in Moscow to deliver a report on this matter.
Vadim Krasnoselsky expressed confidence that the number of Pridnestrovians seeking Russian citizenship is far greater than that currently listed on the online waiting list. He emphasized that rushing through the paperwork is unacceptable: excessive haste should not lead to violations. The President emphasized that the decree signed by the Russian President applies exclusively to Pridnestrovians – those who, at the time of its signing, as of May 15, 2026, were permanently residing in the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. Any fraudulent attempts by Moldovan citizens to obtain documents backdated are unacceptable and will be strictly suppressed, the head of state noted. Vadim Krasnoselsky reported numerous cases of Moldovan residents seeking loopholes to acquire Russian citizenship through the same method offered to Pridnestrovians.
