Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Trade and Economic Relations with the Republic of Moldova Dmitry Kozak:
Russia has been supporting Pridnestrovie for 30 years, because our citizens live here, our compatriots who need it. The Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic is in a difficult situation due to unresolved issue of its status and needs appropriate support. We agreed during the meeting on topical issues in the functioning of the economy, the social sphere, and on the methodological, organizational, and material assistance that the Russian Federation can provide so that residents of Pridnestrovie feel as comfortable as possible under the existing conditions.
Russian Federation actively participates in the negotiation process to resolve the Moldova-Pridnestrovian problem. There is no conflict thanks to to the peacekeeping mission, including Russian. There are some current issues in the work of the “5 + 2” format that cannot be resolved due to the geographical position of Pridnestrovie, but can only be resolved in the negotiation process with Chisinau. Recent years, some of these social and domestic issues, economic activity issues have been resolved, and we will continue to actively participate in this process until it is finally settled.
We also discussed the issue of obtaining Russian citizenship by Pridnestrovians. It is rather casuistic, legal in nature. We will consider it together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and find appropriate solution. All people who are eligible for citizenship in accordance with the documents must exercise this right. We will do it. The problem is the interpretation or vagueness of the rules that regulate the reception of documents in detail, etc. This is not a political issue. The policy of the Russian Federation is that all rights guaranteed by law must be exercised.
The PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky:
The interaction of Pridnestrovie with the Russian Federation is traditionally multi-vector. I would single out the interaction in the sphere of peacemaking. This is a very important direction for us - preservation of the Russian military presence. I, as the President, and the people of Pridnestrovie, we do not separate the peacekeepers from the group of troops of the Russian Federation, which is stationed in Pridnestrovie. This is the first. The second is political and diplomatic interaction. The Russian Federation is an important partner, mediator and guarantor of our relations with Moldova. The progress that we are witnessing in the negotiation process is taking place, thanks to Russia. In addition, there is economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between Pridnestrovie and Russian Federation. This whole block was on the agenda of today's meeting and was considered. The most relevant for citizens of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic are issues of accelerated obtaining of Russian citizenship, the use of maternity capital in the territory of Pridnestrovie and implementation of a number of social projects. All the questions we have discussed. There is insight to move forward. What happens next - time will tell. I am absolutely convinced that by working, we will achieve what we have planned.
