The program of celebrations dedicated to the 250th anniversary of Slobodzeya includes a solemn meeting held in the regional House of Culture. Residents and guests of the anniversary city were welcomed to the stage of the Palace of Culture, by the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky and the Head of local administration Vasily Tishenko. They talked about the history of the village, today and plans for the future, noting that it was the respectful attitude of the residents to the past that made it possible to determine the date of foundation of the city. As it turned out recently, in 1769 the village of Slobodzeya was first indicated on the map of the military operations of the Russian-Turkish war, compiled by the Russian cartographic engineer Friedrich Bauer. Later documents indicate that by 1789 Slobodzeya was an earthen fortress with warehouses and a wooden cathedral inside. Three years later, a stone temple was built here - Mikhailovsky. Reconstructed in 1809, it operates to this day. The number of yards and residents at that time was still growing every year. By the beginning of the 20th century, the number of inhabitants exceeded 12000 people. In 2002, Slobodzeya acquired the status of city. Today it is the center of the largest region of the republic, uniting 25 settlements in which 80000 people live.
The head of the district administration Vasily Tishenko, referring to countrymen, noted that they continue the glorious traditions of their ancestors, including labor. According to him, thousands of tons of grain, vegetables, fruits and berries are produced in the region, which strengthens the economy of the region and the state. He considers the anniversary to be an excellent occasion to look back, recall the past, intensifying activities to study and preserve the history of his native land, assess the current state of affairs and set new goals.
The PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky spoke about the achievements of the region and the great people born on Slobodzeya land. He recalled that the time of foundation of Slobodzeya refers to the period of the birth of Little Russia, the expansion of the territory of the Russian Empire due to the development of new lands. Vadim Krasnoselsky said that over the course of 250 years the region has survived different times. Residents of Slobodzeya always with dignity and dedication coped with difficulties, reaching ever new heights, the President emphasized. He called on the participants in the solemn meeting to honor with a moment of silence those who gave their lives protecting the native land. Speaking about today and tomorrow, the President emphasized that stability, the rule of law, social justice, and well-being depend on the contribution of each citizen. Slobodzeya is not just an administrative unit on the map of the state; Slobodzeya – is inhabitants, Vadim Krasnoselsky emphasized, expressing gratitude to everyone who makes contribution to the development of the city and state. The President presented the awards to the most distinguished residents of Slobodzeya.
The program continued with a gala concert. During the day, musical gifts were presented by the Orchestra of the General Staff of the PMR Armed Forces under the leadership of V. Voinov, the DoReDos group and local creative groups.
