The country's leadership, representatives of state authorities and administration, public activists, defenders of Pridnestrovie and relatives of the deceased heroes, residents of Bendery and city guests gathered today in the central square in Bendery, which has a symbolic name - Liberation. Having gathered in a multi-thousand column, the participants in mourning events dedicated to the next anniversary of the Bendery tragedy marched through the city with portraits of those who defended the independence of Pridnestrovie at the cost of their lives. The PMR President and his wife are among the participants in the march of the Immortal Regiment. “It feels like the lost heroes are back in the ranks. I knew many of them: with some of them I studied, I played sports with someone. I remember them as young people and they remained young in the photos. The feeling today is that they are somewhere nearby”, Vadim Krasnoselsky shared his impressions of participating in the procession.
Bendery citizens and guests of the city proceeded to the Memorial of Memory and Grief to take part in the ceremony of laying flowers, which was preceded by a minute of silence in memory of the fallen defenders. Under the mournful beats of the bell, wreaths, baskets and flowers as symbols of ever-living memory and unfading gratitude, went to the Eternal Flame, a monument to Lieutenant-General Alexander Lebed and to the memorial wall.
Vadim Krasnoselsky spoke today about the tragic events of 27 years ago and about preserving the memory. According to him, those whose life was cut short in the tragic 90s and the living witnesses of those events deserve attention. “Republic is established. We are the state. I am convinced that everyone who died, made his contribution, took a step towards the recognition of our statehood. Now living Pridnestrovians owe them their present and future. True is alive in people's minds. Thousands of Pridnestrovians came to today's events throughout the country to commemorate the fallen, to recall their feat, to lay flowers. We are sometimes urged not to live in the past. And what is the past? 27 years ago, 75 years or 100 years ago ... The past is our life. Not to remember it is to forget those who gave their lives defending the state. No matter how difficult it is, we need to talk about peace. We live for them. I am convinced that those sacrifices were not for the sake of war, but for the sake of peace,” noted the PMR President.
In the conversation of the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky with the media representatives, the speech came about the statements of the President of the Republic of Moldova that he does not exclude the escalation of tension in Pridnestrovie. The journalists also mentioned the accusations of the Head of the Moldovan state against the Pridnestrovian citizens of the Republic of Moldova that they voted not for the Socialist Party, the leader of which is Igor Dodon, at the parliamentary elections. “This is some kind of democracy in Dodon way: insider/outsider distinction and to make politics on this. And then - without comments,” the PMR President emphasized.
In continuation of the Day of Remembrance and Mourning, participants in mourning events will visit memorable places of Bendery.
