Tiraspol under the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos

The Mother of God is considered the patroness of this city on the Dniester. Orthodox residents of Tiraspol have long celebrated the city’s patronal feast on October 14 – the Feast of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos. The decision was made much later to combine the religious and secular observances, officially designating this date on the calendar as Tiraspol City Day. Festive services are held traditionally on October 14 not only in all the city’s churches but also at the Intercession Chapel, erected in 2018 on the site of the Church of the Most Holy Theotokos, which had been destroyed during the years of theomachists. Archbishop of Tiraspol and Dubossary Sawa conducted a prayer service there. The PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky was among the parishioners praying in the open air under the protection of the Mother of God for the well-being of Tiraspol.
