The PMR President visited the memorial in Bendery today. The visit was not official. Vadim Krasnoselsky was accompanied by his mother, wife, children and grandchildren. The presidential family laid flowers at the Eternal Flame of the mass grave. This is a significant place for residents of Bendery. The fallen defenders were buried here after the liberation of the city from the German-Romanian occupation in 1944. The memorial was constructed two decades later. Architect Valentin Mednik designed it in the form of an open pantheon with a 14-meter stele in the center. The monument was made in the shape of a triangular rifle bayonet and symbolizes the power of Soviet weapons. An important element of the complex is a memorial wall with the names of heroes who gave their lives for peace on this earth. The main guns installed at the entrance to the memorial are recognizable. These are 76mm combat units of the 1942 model. A pair of ZIS-3s were taken away for restoration two months ago. They were returned repaired to the place of peaceful service on Victory Day. The memorial was updated for the holiday. The work was carried out according to the state program.
Today’s visit to the Bendery memorial is a family procession of the Immortal Regiment for the Krasnoselskys: to honor the memory of the fallen defenders of the Fatherland, the presidential family arrived with portraits of the grandfather and father of the President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. Vasily Ivanovich Krasnoselsky – was a participant in the Great Patriotic War. He distinguished himself in the battles for Sevastopol. He received several wounds, and celebrated victory in Austria. The father of the PMR President, Nikolai Vasilyevich Krasnoselsky, who survived the occupation during the Second World War, went through the Afghan war with arms in his hands.
