The President listened to information on the PMR Ministry of Justice divisions activity results

An extended meeting of the Collegium of the PMR Ministry of Justice was held via video conference. The results of the activities of the department’s departments in 2023 and outlined plans for the future were discussed. The President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky took part in the work of the Collegium.

The leadership of the Ministry of Justice provided detailed information on all spheres of multidisciplinary work of the department’s divisions. The keynote address was given by Minister Alexandra Tumba. Co-speaker – First Deputy Minister of Justice Vitaly Ishchenko. He informed about the results of headed by him the State Penitentiary Service operational activities. The speakers presented statistical data that allowed for a comparative analysis and assessment of activities. Problematic aspects that require increased attention were identified and measures to solve them were proposed.

Comments, observations, recommendations and proposals for improving the work of the Ministry of Justice were made by the Prosecutor of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Anatoly Guretsky, the PMR Government Chairman Alexander Rosenberg and the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky.

It was discussed among other things that specialists from the Ministry of Justice need to show greater initiative in terms of proposals – for example, in the case of preparing a negative opinion on a particular project. Another recommendation is to improve the documentation culture.

The President drew attention to the positive dynamics observed in the field of parole. The initiative regarding the parole of specific convicts began to come more often from the administration of penitentiary institutions. Vadim Krasnoselsky considers this institute to be the most fair and justified.

An important topic is providing convicts with the opportunity to receive education and employment while in prison, according to Vadim Krasnoselsky. There is positive progress in both directions. 296 prisoners were covered by labor. The majority are engaged in economic activities at the place of serving their sentences; 74 people work in the “Ostrog” state unitary enterprise, subordinate to the Ministry of Justice; there are those who are employed in production enterprises. Vadim Krasnoselsky recalled that citizens held in institutions of the State Penitentiary Service are involved in fulfilling government orders, for example, the production of sports equipment. As for prisoners obtaining a profession, the number of those who have taken advantage of this opportunity is in the hundreds.

Vadim Krasnoselsky focused on the special contingent healthcare. The PMR President emphasized that citizens in custody have the right to receive medical care and all state programs operating in the healthcare sector must necessarily apply to them.

The President focused on the fact that the fundamental task of the institutions of the State Penitentiary Service is not to punish and isolate, but to correct and educate. The work must be comprehensive and systematic, Vadim Krasnoselsky emphasized. He said that he supported the proposal of Archbishop Sawa of Tiraspol and Dubossary to allow not only prisoners, but also immediate members of their families participate in the Easter events planned on the territory of correctional institutions.

Speaking about positive changes in the infrastructure of departments of the Ministry of Justice, including penitentiary institutions, Vadim Krasnoselsky emphasized that we are talking not only about the conditions in which prisoners serve their sentences, but also about the conditions under which personnel serve. Repair and construction work, including by means of the Capital Investment Fund, continues.

The work of the units of the Ministry of Justice of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic based on the results of 2023 was recognized by the President as satisfactory.
