Not a single significant event for Tiraspol residents passes without a visit to the Memorial of Glory. People come here on mourning and festive occasions – to honor the memory of the fallen defenders of the Fatherland and and express gratitude to those who gave their lives for the development and prosperity of the Pridnestrovian land, freedom and well-being of its inhabitants. This unbreakable connection between generations only grows stronger over the years.
May 9 is a special date. The memorial slabs seem to throw off their stone covers, replacing them with floral ones on this day, whatever the circumstances, socio-economic, political, epidemiological, weather conditions. Wreaths, baskets and a scattering of fresh flowers are intended for each hero whose name is carved in stone or remains unknown, but not forgotten.
The President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic laid a wreath at the Eternal Flame burning at the graves of the participants of the Civil and Great Patriotic Wars, reburied during the creation of the memorial complex after announcing a minute of silence in memory of the fallen and deceased defenders of the Motherland and victims of fascism. A scattering of flowers is on the memorial slabs, at the monuments to the Defender of the Fatherland, the Grieving Mother and the monument to the Unknown Soldier opened this year. The remains of a soldier whose name could not be found out were reburied here. The creators of the new memorial block, at the insistence of the President, have fulfilled another important mission: they immortalized in granite the names of Tiraspol residents who died on various fronts of the Great Patriotic War and were buried far from their homeland – about 1300 names on the canvases.
A veteran of the Great Patriotic War, a participant in the hostilities, and a holder of the Order of Glory Vladimir Ivanovich Gromov also arrived to honor the memory of the fallen today. Together with him and the leadership of the republic, flowers were laid by thousands of Pridnestrovians who took part in the Immortal Regiment march or who, according to the tradition of previous years, arrived directly to the memorial.
