The effectiveness of scientific activities, its financing and results, plans for the near future and measures to improve the existing mechanism - all this was discussed in the course of the meeting held at the presidential executive office. A working discussion was initiated by the President, inviting leaders of the presidential administration, the Government, the Supreme Council and state university to the talk. Opening the meeting, Vadim Krasnoselsky noted that he assigns an important role to scientific activity, but considers the current state of affairs in this area unsatisfactory. Scientific activity should contribute to strengthening statehood and developing the country's economy, the President is sure. He takes the view that state funding of the scientific sphere cannot be reduced, but the allocation of funds from the state treasury should be justified by the practical result.
During the two-hour discussion, various opinions were heard regarding the reasons for the current situation and suggestions, how to improve it. The meeting participants agreed that two tasks must be solved as a matter of priority. Firstly, to amend the current legislation - the PMR Civil Code and the Law “On Science and Technology Policy of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic”, expanding the list of possible customers for scientific research (today the state order can be made only on behalf of the Pridnestrovian Government). Two weeks were allocated for executive body to prepare the necessary legislative initiatives. The second point is the definition of a scientific management center. The President considers that the relevant body should function under the Government. The directive on its creation should be executed as soon as possible.
