Commemorative events on the 75th anniversary of the release of prisoners from the Auschwitz death camp took place in the cities of Pridnestrovie. Today, a requiem rally was held at the capital's Holocaust Memorial. The meeting was attended by the President Vadim Krasnoselsky, Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Korshunov, the First President of the PMR Igor Smirnov, representatives of ministries and departments of the republic, clergy, veterans of war, labor and armed forces, defenders of Pridnestrovie, members of public organizations, residents and guests of the republic.
Addressing the rally participants, the PMR President emphasized: the term “transnistria” is inextricably linked with this terrible period of history. That was the name of the territory occupied by the Romanians, which included Pridnestrovie. The PMR President urged those present to abandon the use of this term in relation to Pridnestrovie. Concluding his speech, the President addressed words of support to the surviving prisoners of the fascist concentration camps.
The participants in the rally honored the memory of the victims of the Holocaust with a minute of silence. Rabbi Daniel Munteanu recited a Jewish memorial prayer for the innocent victims. Fresh flowers lay at the monument to the victims of the Holocaust.
