Full member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, member of the Eurasian Association of Universities, holder of the Orders For Contribution to the Development of Society, Badge of Honor, Labor Glory, Honor, For Services to the Fatherland I degree, Republic, medals "Labor Valor" and a commemorative medal of the State Duma of the Russian Federation - all this is Pridnestrovian State University named after Taras Shevchenko. Today, the country's main university is celebrating its 90th anniversary. The solemn event dedicated to the anniversary took place at the site of the Tiraspol Catherine Park. The staff of the educational institution was congratulated by the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky.
They talked from the park scene about the history of the university that began on October 1, 1930, with the establishment of the Institute of National Economy, and the contribution of the university to the development of the educational sphere of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. Today PSU is a classic research-type university with a three-level education system, working according to Russian standards. It includes eight faculties, two institutes and branches, 90 departments, 17 research laboratories, four museums, a library with a fund exceeding one million items, seven cultural and linguistic centers, more than a hundred scientific and a dozen sports sections. The team consists of 13 thousand people, including 10 thousand students and 1100 teachers (280 candidates and 40 doctors of sciences). Rector of PSU Stepan Beril spoke about the activities of the university, not only as a scientific and educational center, but also as a discussion platform. He recalled 215 international conferences and 1700 scientific events held by the university, two thousand publications with a total circulation of over 650 thousand copies, 3500 scientific articles published in the last decade alone and dozens of patents for inventions. It was noticed that cooperation of PSU with two hundred of the largest universities and research and educational centers of Moldova, Ukraine, Russia, South Ossetia, Nagorno-Karabakh, Abkhazia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Poland, Germany, France, China, Japan, and the USA.
Vadim Krasnoselsky spoke about importance of the State University in his congratulatory speech. The President - the founder of PSU - emphasized that he is closely following the development of the university, which trains personnel for various sectors of the national economy. If over 60 years the Tiraspol Pedagogical Institute trained 20 thousand teachers, then over the three decades of the Pridnestrovian history of the university, over 45 thousand graduates in 150 specialties and 300 specializations have been trained within its walls. Vadim Krasnoselsky, who also had the honor to study at PSU, and appreciates the contribution of the state university to its education. Speaking about the interaction of the Pridnestrovian State University with foreign educational institutions, Vadim Krasnoselsky highlighted the importance of relations with Russian universities.
The President focused on the prospects for development of PSU, including the infrastructure one. It is planned in 2021 to renovate the main university buildings, improve the campus and the park near it, improve the distance education center and much more, said Vadim Krasnoselsky, stressing that these plans should be implemented by September 1 of next year.
A gift from the President contributed to the infrastructure improvement of the university: household appliances - washing machines, electric and gas stoves - to equip the campus. Another presidential gift is two Gazelle cars for university needs.
The most distinguished employees were awarded state awards and honorary titles during the solemn meeting dedicated to the 90th anniversary of PSU.
