The events dedicated to the 34th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan were held in Pridnestrovie. Meeting-requiem was held at the Tiraspol Memorial of Glory. The first persons of the state, participants in the Afghan war, family members of the dead internationalist soldiers, military personnel, clergymen, representatives of government agencies, city authorities, institutions, public and educational institutions, marched through the central square of the capital and gathered at the monument to Afghan soldiers. The memorial composition symbolizes the broken lives of 14 Tiraspol residents who did not return from Afghan. They were remembered by name today. There were portraits of the heroes in the hands of the Suvorovites. 54 residents of the Pridnestrovian region were killed while fulfilling their international duty during almost a decade of the war. The war of 1979-1989 claimed more than 13 thousand lives of Soviet soldiers in general. Their memory was honored with a minute of silence.
The President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky noted addressing the participants of the meeting that time had confirmed the correctness of the decisions made then and the fact that the military international duty was not fulfilled in vain.
Vadim Krasnoselsky spoke about the feat of the Afghan soldiers, their contribution to maintaining peace and countering terrorism.
The PMR President laid flowers at the monument "To the Sons of the Fatherland –the soldiers of the Afghan war of 1979-1989", as well as at the foot of the "Grieving Mother" and the "Defender of Pridnestrovie" pedestal.
