Mourning events began at the Memorial of Glory with a requiem rally in Tiraspol. The PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky, leaders and representatives of state authorities and administration, public organizations, labor collectives, relatives and friends of the PMR defenders came to commemorate the Pridnestrovian citizens who sacrificed their lives for peace in our land.
This day, 27 years ago, peace came to the land of Pridnestrovie. The conflict initiated by the Republic of Moldova against the young Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic in early March 1992 was terminated on July 23 by signing an armistice agreement. August 1 began the decouplement of the warring parties. 804 dead, more than 1,500 wounded, dozens of missing people - this is the terrible result of Moldova’s aggression against the Pridnestrovian people. Today, the dead defenders are back in the ranks - in the ranks of the Immortal regiment.
Addressing the participants of the rally-requiem “Memory of the Heart”, Vadim Krasnoselsky expressed condolences to the families and friends of the dead defenders of Pridnestrovie and those who had already died in peacetime from wounds and diseases.
“I am deeply convinced that thanks to the people, the defenders of Pridnestrovie, we have defended peace and the right to live on Pridnestrovian land, to speak our native language. Thanks to the sacrifice of the Pridnestrovian defenders, the peacekeeping mission of the Russian Federation became possible. We are eternally grateful to Russia for the peace. We must live, develop, make the republic better and more interesting, we must fulfill all social obligations - this is our duty to the fallen”, said the President.
The rally participants to the sounds of the metronome honored a minute of silence in memory of the dead defenders of Pridnestrovie. Wreaths, baskets and fresh flowers as a token of gratitude and appreciation went to the graves and monuments of those who defended the independence of the republic 27 years ago.
Memorial events continued this day in the cemeteries of the capital, where Pridnestrovian defenders are buried.
