The President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to the Republic of Moldova Tadas Valionis. The discussion was joined by the PMR Foreign Ministry Vitaly Ignatiev and Deputy Ambassador of Lithuania Liudas Dabkus.
The interlocutors noted that approximately three years have passed since the previous meeting. The situation in the negotiation process has not improved during this period, nor has the situation around the republic.
Vadim Krasnoselsky emphasized that he considers any kind of diplomatic contact useful, and negotiations the best tool for achieving peaceful goals related to ensuring the security and well-being of citizens. The President stated that, at the moment, the Moldovan- Pridnestrovian negotiation process is based primarily on correspondence and interaction between political representatives. This is clearly insufficient to resolve pressing problems, which are compounding and thus exacerbating, according to Vadim Krasnoselsky. He noted that he personally and the Pridnestrovian side as a whole are committed to resuming effective dialogue – the "5+2" format and high-level meetings.
The meeting participants addressed the recent parliamentary elections in Moldova, mentioning the neighboring republic's artificial escalation of tension and its obstruction of the participation of Pridnestrovians holding Moldovan citizenship in the vote. The importance of international attention to the negotiations was discussed. They also discussed bilateral Pridnestrovian-Lithuanian cooperation in various humanitarian areas.
