Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to the Republic of Moldova Tadas Valionis is in Tiraspol on a working visit. The diplomat was received by the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky. The Ambassador was accompanied by his Deputy Egle Blaznelienė. The Pridnestrovian side was represented by the PMR Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev.
The interlocutors mentioned after exchanging greetings that Tadas Valionis was in Pridnestrovie not for the first time. He visited the republic as part of a European delegation in 2007. He represented Lithuania in the working group on Eastern Europe and Central Asia in the Council of the European Union that time. This is the first visit to the PMR as the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania. Tadas Valionis has been in this position since August 2022. The guest noted that he had come to personally get acquainted with the situation and outline plans for interaction for the period of his embassy service.
Vadim Krasnoselsky emphasized that Pridnestrovie is open for dialogue. The main issues remain the preservation of peace and security of citizens – both in the republic and in the regional space as well as the resumption of the negotiation process. The PMR President expressed confidence that the negotiations and work of the 5 + 2 format can and should be continued despite the difficult circumstances if the parties wish. Vadim Krasnoselsky spoke about the aspects of the prevented terrorist attacks, the course and results of their investigation, stressing that the prevention of these crimes made it possible to avoid destabilizing the regional situation.
The meeting participants exchanged information and views on various issues of mutual interest, discussed the prospects for the negotiation process, talked about bilateral Pridnestrovian-Lithuanian cooperation, including various projects – potential and previously implemented on the territory of Pridnestrovie with Lithuanian participation.
