Several settlements of Pridnestrovie are celebrating today the anniversary of liberation from the German-Romanian invaders. The cities that threw off the shackles of occupation on the 12th of April, 1944 are Tiraspol, Dubossary, and Grigoriopol. Commemorative events were organized on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the salvation from fascist oppression. The solemn ceremony of laying flowers was held at the capital's Memorial of Glory. The President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky, veterans, representatives of state authorities, local self-government, public organizations and associations, military personnel and clergymen, residents and guests of the city took part in it.
It was mentioned that German troops captured Tiraspol on August 6, 1941, and were expelled after 970 days of occupation - on April 12, 1944. The spring of liberation was presented to the region by the troops of the 3rd Ukrainian Front. The names of Mikhail Sharokhin, who commanded the 10th Guards Krivoy Rog Airborne Division of the 37th Army, and Private Mamedov, who raised the red flag of the victorious country over the building of the dilapidated Tiraspol theater, were remembered with gratitude today. Words of gratitude were addressed to the officers and soldiers of the 92nd, 118th and 228th rifle divisions, who entered Tiraspol on the night of April 12, and to the local residents who staunchly survived during the war years and restored the city after the victory over the Nazis. The memory of the fallen and dead was honored with a minute of silence. Scarlet carnations from the President and the entire Pridnestrovian people were lowered to the Eternal Flame – a symbol of unfading memory. The unfading gratitude of the descendants is symbolized by fresh flowers left by the participants of the ceremony at the pedestals of the monuments of the memorial complex and on stone slabs with the names of the defenders who in different historical periods gave their lives for the freedom and independence of the city and country, peace in the Pridnestrovian land.
Congratulating the people of Tiraspol and residents of other cities and villages celebrating the Day of Liberation from the German-Romanian invaders, the President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky emphasized the fatefulness of this event and its historical significance, noting that the day of liberation is no less important for any settlement than the day of foundation. May 9 – the Day of the Great Victory – Vadim Krasnoselsky called a sacred holiday.
Answering journalists' questions, the President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic focused on the fact that the Second World War was a war aimed at the destruction of people on a national basis. The President said that there was no true repentance for the murder of millions of innocent civilians, for the devastation, for the concentration camps, for the Holocaust. Vadim Krasnoselsky considers repentance after the victorious May 1945 to be forced, and therefore not coming from the heart. The PMR President focused on the fact that the followers of the ideas of Nazism and fascism allow themselves to tear off the St. George ribbons and awards of the Great Patriotic War, noting with regret that the memory of the victims of the most terrible of wars in some countries is blurred, clouded, erased, blasphemous attempts are made to offend veterans, tarnish the feat of the Soviet soldier and the entire Soviet people.
Vadim Krasnoselsky noted that holding commemorative events is of great importance for preserving history and educating new generations of true patriots. The President expressed gratitude to the veterans for their feat, for the preserved peace and the opportunity to know the truth.
