Vadim Krasnoselsky, opening the press conference, noted that this was the first collective meeting of the President with representatives of the journalistic community after the onset of the pandemic, emphasizing that he was glad to have the opportunity to communicate. The President in the welcoming part of his speech focused on the fact that the press conference is traditional - pre-holiday and final in nature, but this year the peculiarity of the conversation is that it takes place on the eve of the country's anniversary.
The first questions are about history and politics. The journalists began the conversation, which is expected, taking into consideration the pre-holiday essence of the press conference, with recollections of the events of the late 80s and early 90s of the last century - the time of the birth of Pridnestrovie. They talked about the solidarity of the Pridnestrovians who went on strike to defend their rights and freedoms. They asked what, in the opinion of the President, the residents of the republic can and should be proud of today, what the country has achieved by its 30th anniversary. Speaking about the distinctive features of Pridnestrovie, Vadim Krasnoselsky recalled that the fate of Pridnestrovie was and is decided by the people - in the course of referendums, while in other countries referendums have an advisory function.
Not a single press conference is complete without questions about the prospects for the recognition of the PMR by the world community. Discussing the current state of affairs, Vadim Krasnoselsky noted that, unfortunately, political players do not hear much from the people. They asked about external contacts of the republic, interaction with Russia and Moldova. Vadim Krasnoselsky noted that Moldova does not want to see Pridnestrovie as an equal partner yet. A separate question is about the meeting with Igor Dodon. Answering it, the PMR President noted that he saw the desire of the President of the Republic of Moldova to find a solution, but there is no practical progress in this direction: the Moldovan side does not fulfill the obligations reached during the negotiations, while new problems appear, as a result of which the negotiating agenda from the meeting to meeting is growing. As for the "5 + 2" format, Vadim Krasnoselsky expects to continue its work and organize a meeting of the participants in the near future, possibly in the format of a video conference.
Journalists were interested in the secret of maintaining good-neighborly relations with various states in the difficult geopolitical situation of recent times. They asked how the President assessed the results of the activities of the current team of people's representatives (in November its composition will be renewed - the republic will host a single voting day). The President replied that he was satisfied with the work of the parliamentarians.
The journalists devoted a voluminous block of questions to the most relevant topic of this year, which migrated from the agenda of the end of 2019, - COVID-19. They asked about the losses of the Pridnestrovian economy due to the pandemic, readiness for a new wave and strategies to counter the spread of the virus. They were interested in how, according to the President, the level of understanding among the population of the significance of the measures taken by the state in the fight against the disease that struck the whole world is great.
Questions were raised in the economic block regarding supporting agriculture, which has had a lot of trials this year, progress in the development of the melioration system and rural areas. They mentioned the Development Strategy of Pridnestrovie more than once during the conversation. When asked if the President was satisfied with its execution, Vadim Krasnoselsky replied that he always wanted more, but he was pleased that he was seeing a clear movement forward.
Discussing topics related to social policy, they talked about the salaries of doctors, the likelihood of introducing a health insurance system, new, quarantine ones, the conditions for the functioning of educational institutions, further plans for implementation of the program for the construction of affordable housing, the social and infrastructural boom and the flourishing of the park era of the Pridnestrovian region ... They talked about changes in the army and the new attitude of citizens towards it. The topic of increased attention to people with disabilities and health status did not remain without an interested discussion.
The press conference, the time of which was limited due to the quarantine circumstances, lasted exactly two hours. Concluding the conversation, Vadim Krasnoselsky expressed gratitude to the interlocutors, noting the fact that there are questions that do not lose their relevance from meeting to meeting. This suggests that the years go by, but the integrity of the Pridnestrovian people, the principles that they adhere to, do not change. The PMR President congratulated the interlocutors and, in their person, the entire Pridnestrovian people on the upcoming anniversary of the republic.
