Presidential grants are awarded in Pridnestrovie in various areas. This includes providing financial support for social projects, subject to the state's financial capacity. This funding was cancelled for the current year (2025) due to forced budgetary constraints, however, the 2024 grant funds were used. Project implementation is being monitored. One of last year's winners was the Union of Customs Service Veterans, which won in the "Preservation of the Historical Heritage of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic" category. The "Border Markers" project aims to commemorate the events of the 18th and 19th centuries, when the Pridnestrovian lands in the Iagorlyk region formed the border between the Ottoman Empire and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, then the Russian Empire and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and later between the Ottoman and Russian empires. Three pillars marking the state's borders are mentioned in various historical documents. Determining their exact location is currently impossible, but the historical fact itself is important, according to the idea's creators. A symbolic memorial site covering 400 square meters was created at the intersection of the Doibany-Goyany and Tiraspol-Kamenka roads using the allocated 650000 rubles. It is convenient for tourism logistics and safety while not intended to be historically accurate. The site's creators suggest that the symbolic pillars are offset approximately 500 meters from their historical locations. The stylized border pillars, made from local materials as in earlier times, symbolize different eras and states. Each bears a corresponding coat of arms and informational plaques in Russian, Polish, Turkish, and English. Today marked the "delivery of the project"—the official opening of the memorial. The PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky participated in the ceremony. The event organizers sought to recreate the atmosphere of bygone centuries, using the images of a Janissary – an officer of the Ottoman Empire's troops, a captain – an officer of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and a cavalry sergeant of the Russian Empire's border and customs guard. Excerpts from documents, archival records, and historians' memoirs were read.
Valentin Grabko, Chairman of the State Customs Committee, noted that the opening of the historical site coincided with the 33rd anniversary of the Pridnestrovian customs service and emphasized the continuity of customs structures across generations of different historical periods. He explained that materials on the history of the formation of customs structures are being collected bit by bit.
Aleksandr Minaichenko, the author and executor of the socially significant project, said that the idea belonged to Vitaly Neagu. He, then Chairman of the State Customs Committee of the PMR, while visiting the departmental museum in 2019 proposed intensifying research in this area.
The PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky expressed gratitude to the initiators and everyone involved in the project's implementation. The President emphasized the importance of preserving history in a wide variety of fields and spheres. He noted that the Pridnestrovian land has always been at the crossroads of not only empires but also civilizations. The head of state expressed confidence that the site will be of interest to both Pridnestrovians and visitors to the republic, will become a popular tourist destination, and will successfully fulfill its educational function.
