The President laid flowers at the monuments to the founders and defenders of Tiraspol on behalf of the entire Pridnestrovian people

Tiraspol residents celebrated City Day. The Pridnestrovian capital is a birthday city both in the secular and in the Orthodox sense. It is considered that Tiraspol is under the protection of the Holy Mother of God. The 14th of October is designated as a holiday of the same name in the church calendar. That is, the city celebrates the temple holiday today like many villages of the republic. October 14 officially became the Day of the city of Tiraspol less than a quarter of a century ago – in 1998. This decision was made on the basis of an appeal from the municipal authorities, who decided once and for all to fix the date in the calendar in order to avoid disputes, discussions and historical inconsistencies. As for the age of the city on the Dniester, the countdown is from the moment the city-forming fortress, founded by Suvorov by decree of Catherine the Great, was founded – that is from 1792.

Official celebrations on the occasion of the 230th anniversary of the founding of Tiraspol began with the traditional flower-laying ceremony at the Memorial of Glory. It was recalled in the course of the event that Tiraspol is an order-bearing city: it was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the first degree for its contribution to the Victory, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor for the post-war restoration and development of the economy and culture, the Order of the Republic for its contribution to the successful development of the country. The PMR President, the leadership of the authorities, residents and guests of the city honored the memory of the soldiers who died defending Tiraspol in different historical periods with a minute of silence. A wreath, baskets and a scattering of flowers were laid at the Eternal Flame, gravestones and monuments of the memorial complex. Fresh flowers, as a symbol of gratitude to the descendants, were laid on the festive day for the city and at the monuments to its founders – Empress Catherine the Great, Generalissimo Suvorov and urban architect Franz de Volan.
