Economic self-sufficiency and food security are directly linked concepts. Their provision has always been and remains one of the priority tasks for the leadership of Pridnestrovie. In the current realities, the issue is becoming increasingly relevant. The President of the PMR Vadim Krasnoselsky spoke about this at a working meeting. He recalled that the coronavirus pandemic and the associated closure of borders almost all over the world, the practice of imposing sanctions on individual states, and a sharp increase in energy prices were the signals to intensify work in this direction. The current restriction of foreign trade relations is a new challenge and another confirmation that Pridnestrovie must minimize its dependence on imports and exports. We are talking, first of all, about the so-called food basket. Vadim Krasnoselsky has repeatedly focused on the fact that the republic has all the resources to fill it on its own. Advances in the development of agriculture are bearing fruit. The provision of the domestic market with various types of agricultural products is increasing. In the current circumstances of the limited import of food products, it is important to preserve the contents of the Pridnestrovian bins in order to provide the local population with food, Vadim Krasnoselsky stressed. The meeting participants discussed possible restrictive measures that will prevent the commercial export of food products. We talked about the prospects for reorienting the work of agricultural producers. The emphasis should be shifted from imports to meeting domestic needs. For this, it is necessary to study the Pridnestrovian market more carefully, identify gaps, identify areas that require increased attention, the President aimed. It was noted that it is necessary to change the approach to the selection of varieties of agricultural products, to closely monitor the demand, which will change in the event of a decrease or suspension of the import flow. Specific positions were discussed at the meeting: sunflower oil, eggs, meat and vegetable products - fresh and canned, flour and bakery products. They talked about crop rotation and modern storage methods, government orders and the advantages of enterprises operating on the principle of a full production cycle.
Vadim Krasnoselsky instructed the Ministry of Agriculture to gather the largest farmers of the republic in the near future and discuss adjustments to work plans for the current year, taking into account the prevailing circumstances.
The relevant departments were pointed out the necessity of strengthening control in the sphere of pricing.
