Sanctions against the MMP were imposed by decree of the President of Ukraine on June 21, 2018. On March 20 of the current year, the Plant of Rybnitsa was excluded from the sanctions list. Commenting on this event, the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky expressed confidence that restrictive measures to the Pridnestrovian enterprise was unfounded and noted that the solution of this problem would lead to the recovery of the flagship of the metallurgical industry of Pridnestrovie: “The decision has been made. We considered and consider that the plant was under these sanctions by chance, but this is geopolitics. Last year due to sanctions imposed on the Moldavian Metallurgical Plant, we lost 1.2% of GDP. This is a very serious amount. Immediately after the imposition of sanctions, I, as President, and the PMR Foreign Ministry began to contact the relevant authorities in order to clarify that we are not the subject of these sanctions, as was stated in the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine and the Decree of the President of Ukraine, who approved this decision. I am glad that we were heard, finally understood. By the decree of the President of Ukraine, the sanctions were lifted from the MMP. This is a good step towards the recovery of the enterprise. I think that thanks to this decision, the output will be increased. And most importantly, there will be good prospects for further cooperation with Ukraine”.
