The meeting of the Collegium of the Foreign Ministry of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic was held in an expanded format. Dedicated to the Day of the Pridnestrovian diplomatic servants event has a reporting character: the results of the ministry’s activities in 2018 were summed up. Information on the work of the Pridnestrovian Ministry of Foreign Affairs during the past year is publicly available on the official website. The summary information was voiced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev and his deputy Alexander Stetsyuk.
“The state’s foreign policy is the most important tool for ensuring the country's international interests, strengthening its positions and expanding the range of effective partnerships and friendships, protecting the legitimate rights and interests of citizens. The priority task for Pridnestrovian diplomacy is to create conditions for the formation of foreign policy stability, as an integral part of general stability - one of the three basic principles for the development of modern Pridnestrovie”, the foreign minister of the republic noted in his speech. Vitaly Ignatiev highlighted the work at all levels of the negotiation process with the Republic of Moldova and bilateral interaction with the members of the world community as the main activities of the republic’s diplomatic service. Speaking about the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian relations, the minister recalled that two years ago at initiatives and practical actions of Pridnestrovie that received international approval, the dialogue was given practical impetus. In 2018, its effectiveness increased. The information was voiced that in the reporting period 29 meetings of representatives on political issues and 85 meetings of expert (working) groups and subgroups were organized (the total figure exceeds the data of 2017 almost three times). Work on the systemic implementation and practical implementation of the five agreements is underway. A line is drawn under discussion about land in the Dubossary district and schools with teaching based on the Latin script. Issues of telecommunications and the closure of politically motivated criminal cases remain relevant in the upcoming diplomatic season.
A high level of interaction with representatives of other states was also noted. The number of international meetings increased last year by 20% at the level of the PMR President.
The participants in the meeting of the extended Collegium of the Pridnestrovian Foreign Ministry and in their person the whole Pridnestrovian diplomacy was congratulated by colleagues from Russia, Abkhazia and South Ossetia, as well as representatives of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic.
Wishes of professional success, health and well-being were addressed to the employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky. He highly appreciated the activities of the ministry in the past year. Speaking about long-term plans and tasks, the President recalled that they are formulated in the Development Strategy of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. The President emphasized that ensuring political stability is the responsibility of the diplomatic corps. Vadim Krasnoselsky considers the opening of the Official representative office of the PMR in Moscow to be an important achievement of last year. He urged not to stop there and take further steps to create similar sites in the capitals of other states, for example, in Kiev and Brussels. “What may initially seem impracticable, becomes with time the norm of life”, Vadim Krasnoselsky said.
The President spoke about the high level of interaction of the Pridnestrovian Foreign Ministry with other ministries and departments. He paid special attention to the so-called additional, for example, publishing, activities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The President aimed at such work continuation, denoting that the creators of two new museum exhibitions - Scythian culture (will be placed in the exhibition hall of the Alexander Nevsky Park) and victims of political repression (a gunpowder magazine in the Tiraspol fortress) need assistance from Pridnestrovian diplomats.
The President on the occasion of the professional holiday presented medals and letters of appreciation to distinguished employees of the Pridnestrovian Foreign Ministry. In addition, in the presence of the President, the Minister and colleagues, the words of the oath were uttered by workers who were first assigned a diplomatic rank.
