Meeting of the PMR President with the OSCE Delegation: Protocol Highlights

Welcoming the guests, Vadim Krasnoselsky emphasized the significance of this meeting and the OSCE's mediation efforts in general, calling the organization a conduit for the negotiation process between Pridnestrovie and Moldova. The PMR President recalled that negotiations have been stagnant since 2019, noting that this impasse occurred long before the military actions in neighboring Ukraine, which Moldova uses as an excuse to explain the alleged impossibility of the "5+2" format. Vadim Krasnoselsky emphasized that Moldova has still not provided a legal assessment of the events of 1992 in three and a half decades, which resulted in the deaths of hundreds of Pridnestrovians. Another issue that the PMR President cited as a barrier to improving Moldovan-Pridnestrovian relations is the so-called law on separatism adopted in Moldova. Vadim Krasnoselsky noted that the OSCE had previously expressed a negative view of this law, which violated citizens' rights, but this had not changed Moldova's position. Vadim Krasnoselsky reaffirmed commitment of Pridnestrovie to an exclusively peaceful settlement and expressed hope for a productive meeting and the Swiss Chairmanship as a whole.

Ignazio Cassis for his part stated that he had arrived to familiarize himself with the situation firsthand and attempt to understand what was happening. He assured that the Swiss Chairmanship is committed to effective engagement with both sides.

Feridun Sinirlioglu noted during the protocol part of the meeting that the OSCE is making efforts to facilitate a peaceful resolution of the conflict and ensure security.

Thomas Lenk noted that he has seen some progress in the dialogue – a meeting of official representatives of the parties took place, and the work of expert (working) groups has intensified. The diplomat noted that the negotiations must focus on achieving greater results.

The interlocutors expressed hope that the meeting would be fruitful. The discussion continued without the participation of the media.
