The program of events dedicated to the Bendery Tragedy Day has been listed as a mandatory component of the memory regatta for many years. It is organized on the basis of "The Seagull" rowing base in Bendery. This year was not exception. Traditional memorial event took place - with the only difference that the venue is the Rowing Center. That is what the infrastructure-upgraded facility is now called. The reconstruction, initiated by the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky, was carried out at the expense of the fund of capital investment. Housewarming, on the urgent recommendation of the President was timed to June 19. Opening on this day new or commissioning repaired socially significant objects is another tradition in Bendery.
The history of rowing on the Dniester was recalled at the opening ceremony of the center. Kayaking and canoeing has been cultivated since the mid of 1950s of the last century in Bendery. From the very first days, this sport gained popularity among the local population, and after a very short time, lovers of outdoor activities began to occupy the highest levels of the podium at competitions among professionals. The time came to the formation and development of rowing in the 60s. “The Seagull” rowing base was built in 1968, the “Youth” in 1971. Both of them are today the material and technical base of the Sports School for rowing in Bendery, officially registered in 2008, and since 2015 named after Nikolai Tufanyuk, an honored coach who trained many world-famous champions. At present, more than three hundred young athletes are being educated at the school. There are 27 groups in three areas - kayaking and canoeing, rowing and powerlifting. The training of future champions involved a dozen and a half trainers and teachers. A serious problem so far has been the material and technical equipment. Sports equipment is being gradually updated with the support of a former rowing school student, candidate for master of sports of the USSR in rowing, and today Honorary President of the PMR Rowing Federation Vadim Krasnoselsky. Capital buildings required investments. This year, thanks to the capital investment program, a significant amount of work has been mastered. Sports complex, which has training rooms, hygiene rooms, changing rooms, hotel rooms, a cultural and leisure room and administrative premises has been built in the renovated three-story building of the former rescue station. There are sports and playgrounds.
The importance of the development of mass sports was discussed during the opening ceremony of the center, noting the symbolism of the opening of the renewed sports facility in the Year of Health. Nikolai Tufanyuk is remembered with special warmth, flowers traditionally lay down to his memorial plate.
Speaking about the Memory Regatta, which from year to year gathers colleagues of athletes who died in 1992 - Andrei Bunin, Yuri Gladkov and Vyacheslav Malchukov, as well as young rowers who continue the glorious traditions of Bendery, who defend the honor of the Motherland - both in the sports field, and with weapons in his hands, the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky called it an example of the connection of generations. The President focused on the importance of remembering the past and honoring the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for the bright future of the Pridnestrovian people.
Cutting the symbolic red ribbon, Vadim Krasnoselsky emphasized that athletes have to breathe life into these updated walls. A tour of the renovated and equipped with modern sports equipment and inventory facilities was organized for guests of the celebration.
Vadim Krasnoselsky is a regular participant in regattas.
This is not the first time that the President takes part, not as part of the veteran eight, as it was before, but in pair, together with his wife Svetlana Krasnoselskaya.
Participants in the regatta lowered wreaths and flowers in memory of the dead defenders of Pridnestrovie.
