Vadim Krasnoselsky held a meeting dedicated to the creation of a memorial complex in the village of Karmanovo

The village of Karmanovo is located 22 kilometers from Grigoriopol. The settlement received its modern name in the late forties of the last century. It was originally called Neudorf (New Village). The foreign name is not accidental: German colonists settled in this territory at the behest of Empress Catherine II in 1809. The inhabitants of the settlement were not spared by the tragedy called political repressions in the second half of the 30s of the 20th century. Many were shot. It is authentically known that the verdict was carried out in Tiraspol near the walls of the powder magazine of the fortress of St. Vladimir. It was confirmed that the lives of at least 190 repressed residents of Neudorf ended at this very place as a result of the excavations carried out here and the work with archival documents. Their remains have been recovered and identified. Archaeologists, historians, management and current residents of Karmanovo consider it right to rebury the exhumed bodies in their native land on the territory of the village. This position is supported by the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky. He held a meeting on this issue today. The heads of the district and village administrations, representatives of the scientific and archaeological community of the republic, as well as the Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, whose employees are actively involved in search and research work, were invited to the working discussion.

The meeting participants are unanimous in their opinion that the innocent victims of political repressions, most of which were rehabilitated posthumously, should find their resting place. It is important to inform the descendants of the deceased about the place of burial of relatives. The place was discussed today. Locations were offered differently. They came to the conclusion after discussion that the burial would be organized on the territory of the village cemetery. A memorial complex will be created there that should perform not only a memorial, but also an information and educational function, according to the President. The project of the future memorial was preliminary discussed. It was noted that it should be thought out in such a way that if other execution pits with the remains of German colonists who lived on the territory of the present Grigoriopol region of the PMR are found, it would be possible to expand the burial and increase the number of plates on which the names of the dead will be listed.

It was decided that the mourning ceremony of reburial will be held on October 30 this year – the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repressions, and in the spring of next year they will begin to create a memorial.
