Meeting between the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden to the Republic of Moldova Petra Lärke took place at the presidential executive office. The diplomat was accompanied by embassy staff. Deputy Chairman of the Government Vitaly Neagu and Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev represented the Pridnestrovian during the discussion.
Welcoming the guests, Vadim Krasnoselsky noted the long history of diplomatic ties between Pridnestrovie and Sweden. Cooperation had been particularly intensive during Sweden’s Chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). However, the President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic reported that there had been no positive developments since then. The negotiation process, stalled in late 2019 due to the actions of the Moldovan side, remains non-functional. Vadim Krasnoselsky attributes this to Moldova’s refusal to engage in a full-fledged dialogue. "I am a supporter of the negotiation process. I am convinced that there would be no wars at all if all politicians were guided by this principle. Avoid of negotiations is unacceptable in my view. It is easy to create tension and it is easy to start hostilities, but emerging from such a situation is very difficult as experience shows. It was Moldova that did everything to ensure the '5+2' format ceased to function. This is irresponsible and futile", the President asserted. He noted that Pridnestrovie would appreciate assistance from the Embassy of the Kingdom of Sweden in Moldova and from Petra Lärke personally in revitalizing the negotiation process.
Petra Lärke has held her current post since August of last year. This is her first meeting with the Pridnestrovian leadership. She noted that she headed the secretariat in 2021 during Sweden’s OSCE Chairmanship, she was well-informed about unfolding events, and held hopes for a successful resolution of issues surrounding the complex Moldovan-Pridnestrovian relationship. She highlighted that the Swedish Embassy’s priorities included security, the rule of law, democratic development, and economic growth. The Ambassador mentioned projects being implemented under UN auspices in the fields of education, the environment, energy, and social inclusion.
