Today began with festive services in all churches of the capital. Tiraspol celebrates the name day on the day of the Protection of the Blessed Virgin. The temple holiday coincides with the secular one.
Traditional solemn event was held at the city Memorial of Glory on the occasion of the 229th anniversary of the founding of Tiraspol. The memory of the fallen defenders of the city and the country was honored with a minute of silence. There was laid a basket of scarlet carnations at the Eternal Flame from the President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky and in his person from the entire Pridnestrovian people as a symbol of gratitude and memory. The flower-laying ceremony was attended by representatives of the leadership of the republic and the city, the First President of the PMR, clergy, military personnel, and the public. They left a scattering of flowers on stone slabs with the names of the fallen defenders and at the foot of the monuments that make up the structure of the memorial complex.
A little over a year ago the monument to Catherine II appeared in the center of the capital, with whose name the history of Tiraspol is directly connected. Flowers were laid at the pedestal as a token of gratitude for the fateful decision made more than two centuries ago that "there should be a city on the Dniester". The gratitude of the descendants was also addressed to the executor of the decree of the Russian empress – the great commander Suvorov as well as the author of the master plan for the construction of Tiraspol, the architect Franz de Volan. Flowers today were laid and at the portrait sculpture of Grigory Potemkin – the person who played an important role in the integration of the Pridnestrovian region into the geopolitical sphere of Russia and before the arrival of Suvorov on this land, led the military campaign on the Dniester.
An ideal city is the city in which one wants to live – such a definition was given by Vadim Krasnoselsky in today's festive conversation with journalists, answering a question about the development and improvement of Tiraspol. The PMR President focused on the history of the city, noting that it is the pivotal aspect, the foundation on the basis of which the state and society are built and developed. “The city of Tiraspol was created thanks to the appearance of fortress. The first residents of Tiraspol were the grenadiers of the great Count Suvorov. The military history was continued. Tiraspol has experienced a lot - both tragic and heroic. But the inhabitants have always been distinguished by their cohesion. This was during the First World War, and during the Civil War, and during the Great Patriotic War, and during the hostilities of 1992. I would like to wish this military history of the city to end. The history of development, culture and prosperity continued”, the President wished the residents of Tiraspol. He noted that the infrastructural transformation of the city continues. At the same time, the work associated with the creation of comfortable and modern urban environment, the arrangement of public space, not only does not alienate the residents of Tiraspol from their past, but also contributes to the preservation of history and familiarization with it.
