The Divine Liturgy to mark the church's patronal feast day was held at the Church of the Holy Right-Believing Prince Alexander Nevsky, located within the park of the same name at the Bendery Fortress. The service was conducted by Archbishop of Tiraspol and Dubossary Sawa. Parishioners honored the heavenly patron of all warriors during the liturgy.
Believers in many countries pray to the holy prince today. On September 12, the Russian Orthodox Church observes the feast of the Relics of Alexander Nevsky Translation, significant date in the church calendar. The history of the feast dates back to 1724, when the holy relics were ceremoniously transported from Vladimir to St. Petersburg by decree of Peter I.
A religious procession took place following the liturgy. Participants included PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky, Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Neagu, Head of Bendery Roman Ivanchenko, clergy, and parishioners.
Speaking on the significance of the holiday, Vadim Krasnoselsky noted that the name of Alexander Nevsky remained a symbol of courage and devotion to the Fatherland and the Orthodox faith for centuries. Such holidays unite people and help preserve spiritual and historical traditions, according to the President.
Flowers were laid at the monument to Alexander Nevsky in the park, honoring the memory of this outstanding statesman and military commander.
September 12 also marked another significant date: the 31st anniversary of Archbishop Sawa’s episcopal consecration. Vadim Krasnoselsky congratulated the Archbishop, acknowledging his long-standing contribution to the life of the Russian Orthodox Church and Pridnestrovie, and wished him health and strength for his continued ministry.
The opening of the second classroom for the Sunday school at the Alexander Nevsky Church was timed to coincide with these celebrations. The school began welcoming children in December 2024. A learning space has been set up beneath the arch of an ancient fortress rampart. Students study there the fundamentals of the Orthodox faith and discuss spiritual values, virtues, and traditions.
The new facility will expand the school's capabilities; plans are in place to use it not only for classes but also as a conference hall for meetings and other events. The church rector Archpriest Mikhail Lung thanked the President for his support and assistance in developing the Sunday school. Archbishop Sawa presented a painting depicting the church to commemorate the occasion.
The ceremony concluded with a commemorative envelope cancellation. The envelopes feature three stamps depicting Pridnestrovian chapels, as well as icons of Alexander Nevsky and Daniel of Moscow housed in the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Tiraspol. The PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky applied the first commemorative postmark.
