Pridnestrovie mourns the victims of the tragedy known as Bendery tragedy

The Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic remembers today the victims of the terror unleashed in 1992 by Moldovan security forces. June 19 is a special date in the chronicles of modern Pridnestrovie, inscribed in it with the blood of the residents and defenders of Bendery. Armed formations of Moldova treacherously invaded the peaceful city 33 years ago, violating not only human, social, political, legal principles and norms, but also the agreement on a peaceful settlement of the conflict reached literally the day before. More than 1200 Bendery residents and those who came to their aid were wounded; about 80 thousand citizens left Bendery; dozens are still missing; 489 people, including 132 civilians – women, children, old people, died during the 40-day onslaught of armed formations. Candles are lit in all churches of the republic in their memory today. Bells are ringing mournfully. Pridnestrovie united in a single funeral prayer.

The PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky took part in the memorial service, which was conducted by Archbishop of Tiraspol and Dubossary Sawa in the Bendery Church of the Holy Blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky.
