At the initiative of the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky, Pridnestrovians at the end of August celebrate the regimental holiday of the 55th Podolsk regiment since 2017. This year, the celebrations are not organized as large as before. The decision was made to abandon the procession and mass festivities with elements of theatrical performance due to the pandemic.
Many soldiers and officers of the 55th Podolsk regiment are buried at the Bendery War-Historical Memorial. It was here that the main part of the event took place, in which the President took part. Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh Artur Tovmasyan was the guest of the regimental holiday. A delegation of the Republic of Artsakh arrived in Pridnestrovie yesterday to take part in the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the PMR.
Formation of the subunit was associated with Orthodox holidays according to Russian military traditions. On August 29, the day of formation of the 55th Podolsk Infantry Regiment, the church celebrates the day of the Transfer of the Image of the Lord Not Made by Hands. A prayer service in memory of the fallen soldiers was traditionally held at the chapel of the same name, located on the territory of the War-Historical Memorial. It was conducted by the Archiepscope of Tiraspol and Dubossary Sawa.
The President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky addressed the participants of the solemn event at the end of the prayer service. The President emphasized the importance for the state of preserving the memory of the heroic past.
After the litiya, those present laid wreaths and flowers at the foot of the Orthodox Cross.
Another ceremony took place at the memorial complex. The Cossack Cross was Consecrated. It was installed at the initiative of the President in memory of the Cossacks who died defending Bendery in 1992.
The event continued with a lithium ceremony and a flower-laying ceremony at the monument to "Russian military glory". An obelisk in honor of the infantrymen of the 55th Podolsk regiment was built in Bendery in 1912 to commemorate the centenary of victory in the Patriotic War of 1812. This is how respecting for the soldiers and officers of the older generation was expressed by the 55th Podolsk regiment at the beginning of the twentieth century.
The commemorative events ended with a liturgy at the Church of the Holy Blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky, located on the territory of the Bendery fortress.
For reference: the 55th Podolsk regiment was formed in 1798 on the shores of the Gulf of Finland, it participated in almost all the wars with Russia in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The soldiers defended the interests of the country in wars with the Swedes, French, Turks, and Japanese. After the Crimean War, the regiment was moved to Chisinau, and then to Bendery, which for the next three decades became a place of permanent deployment.
