The PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky had a conversation with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Her Majesty the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Republic of Moldova Steven Fisher today. The conversation was initiated by the British diplomat and organized via videoconference. The PMR Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev and the Second Secretary for Political Affairs of the British Embassy Megan Daily took part in the discussion in addition to the main interlocutors.
Vadim Krasnoselsky, welcoming the Ambassador, noted that during the time that had passed since the previous conversation, held at the presidential executive office on the 7th of February this year, serious events had occurred that had an impact not only on the course of the negotiation process and the work of the “5 + 2” format, but on the situation in the world as well. The PMR President recalled the meeting held last Friday with the delegation of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, noting that Polish diplomacy is aimed at maintaining dialogue and preventing the escalation of the conflict between Pridnestrovie and Moldova. Vadim Krasnoselsky emphasized that the Pridnestrovian side adheres to the same position. He indicated at the same time that the implementation depends on the involvement and responsible approach of both parties. It is necessary to state today that Moldova is not inclined to fulfill the existing agreements and demonstrates consistency in its policy of aggravating the situation in the most difficult periods moreover. The Moldovan side blocks the delivery of goods to the territory of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, including those of humanitarian importance as during the pandemic restrictions today when the Ukrainian-Pridnestrovian border is closed. We are talking, for example, about medicines, necessary for seasonal work agricultural products, on which the food security of the population of the republic depends in the future. Among the problematic aspects are such as the non-return of previously seized license plates and economic agents’ obstruction activities, including the Moldovan Metallurgical Plant. The enterprise of Rybnitsa does not receive the required amount of raw materials due to the inability to carry out export-import operations. The work of the electric steel-smelting shop was stopped at the end of last week, the section-rolling shop – at the beginning of the current week. There are a thousand tons of metal in reserve to cover exclusively intra-republican needs. The enterprise shipped 22.5 thousand tons of finished products in March, another 10.5 thousand tons of custom-made goods are in factory warehouses.
These and other questions became the subject of a detailed discussion during the conversation between Vadim Krasnoselsky and Steven Fisher. The British diplomat expressed a desire to understand the causes of what is happening and readiness to jointly seek solutions to existing problems. Vadim Krasnoselsky noted the importance of the participation in this process of the UK and other representatives of the “Permanent Conference…” format.
