A solemn meeting dedicated to the 231st anniversary of the founding of Tiraspol was held in the assembly hall of the House of Soviets on the eve of the capital's name day. The President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky took part in the event, which was opened by two anthems – the anthem of the republic and of the city.
The head of Tiraspol, Oleg Dovgopol, spoke about how the Pridnestrovian capital lives, about achievements, current concerns and plans for the future. The President Vadim Krasnoselsky made a congratulatory speech.
The President not only congratulated and bid farewell to the townspeople, but also awarded Tiraspol’s achievements with a state award. Tiraspol was awarded the Order of Catherine the Great for the contribution of city residents to the preservation of historical and cultural heritage and traditions, development and strengthening of the economic and social potential of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. This is one of the most modern Pridnestrovian state awards. It was established this year. There are already citizens awarded this order, but the first number in the order book belongs to the city of Tiraspol. An eight-pointed star with forty-eight rays diverging from the personal monogram of Catherine the Great depicted in the center adorned the Tiraspol flag today. For information: seven faceted crystals symbolize the cities of the republic, the interweaving of oak leaves – courage and perseverance, the grape-vine and bunches of grapes – fertility and prosperity.
The President awarded during the ceremonial meeting the most distinguished residents of the capital. Orders and medals were presented to representatives of various organizations, institutions, and enterprises that ensure the life of the city.
