The President honored the memory of the founders of Tiraspol and its defenders on City Day

Tiraspol celebrated the 231st anniversary of the founding of the city. The official celebrations opened with a flower-laying ceremony at the capital's Memorial of Glory. The leadership of the city and the republic, representatives of state and municipal structures, organizations, institutions, enterprises, residents and guests of Tiraspol observed a minute of silence in memory of the defenders who died defending the city on the Dniester. The presidential floral basket was lowered to the Eternal Flame, a scattering of flowers - to the gravestones, monuments to the Sorrowful Mother and Defender of the Fatherland. Milestones of Tiraspol history were recalled at the memorial complex. The city is awarded four orders – “For Contribution to the Victory”, the Order of Red Banner of Labor, the Order of the Republic and the Order of Catherine the Great. Each award reflects achievements in different historical periods and in different fields.

The President congratulated the head of the Tiraspol state administration and in his person all residents of the capital on City Day. Personal congratulations were addressed to Oleg Dovgopol: the head of the city celebrates his 48th birthday today.

The ceremony continued at the monuments to historical figures, who played a significant and fateful in some cases role in the history of the city. The delegation led by the President laid flowers at the monument to Catherine the Great, whose name is given to the new park in the center of the capital, and at the portrait sculpture of Franz de Volan, located in the park of the same name on the Tiraspol embankment. Special thanks from the descendants to Generalissimo Suvorov. A scattering of carnations decorated the foot of the monument to the founder of Tiraspol. Participants in the ceremony noted that the bronze horseman has become the hallmark of the city over 44 years of its existence. They talked about the indisputability of the commander’s merits, and the fact that the nine-meter monument created by the Artamonov brothers is deservedly considered one of the best monuments to Alexander Suvorov. The central square of Tiraspol bears his name. A variety of festive locations were organized here today. The cultural and entertainment program is scheduled until the end of the day.
