The President visited the territory of the Tiraspol fortress, where excavations are underway and new temple is being built

During the excavations, not only hundreds of human remains were lifted from the depths of the earth, traces of terrible crimes appeared on the surface as an illustration of the tragic chapters of the history of a small city and huge country, Vadim Krasnoselsky said today, being at the military history museum “Tiraspol Fortress”. On June 13, 2017, during the landscaping, discovered places where victims of political repression were shot. The remains of 436 victims of political repression were buried in a mass grave - next to another eight hundred killed in the 1930s, exhumed in the early 90s. Over the next year, 218 more people were found and reburied in the course of incessant search. Already in 2019, when ground was being drilled, new points of repression shooting were found. Four dozen dead bodies were exhumed.

“This is a tragic place - the places where victims of political repression were shot, people who were killed without court sentences. We see the disorder in which the remains are. Our Christian duty is to rebury, to organize a museum of political repression, to open a temple in the name of the new martyrs and confessors. We are the heirs of victories and we are the heirs of tragedies. Attention should be paid to the first and second", said Vadim Krasnoselsky.

The President went down to the powder cellar, where the branch of the Tiraspol united museum is located, and the parish in the name of the new martyrs and confessors spoke with the arch-priest. On the instructions of the President, by September 15, the premises of the cellar should be vacated in order to be able to start works on the museum of victims of political repression on this square, the project of which has already been approved by Vadim Krasnoselsky. By this time, it is necessary to complete the internal work in the temple being built in the neighborhood. It will be a triple-domed building - in the name of the Holy Trinity. Wooden, like the whole church, domes are almost ready. Work is underway on the improvement of the adjacent territory and access roads.

The official opening of the complex, which will include memorial, museum and temple, is scheduled for October 30 - the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repression.

As for the excavations carried out by archaeologists and members of the Heirs of the Victory movement, which the President observed today, they are continuing. The President called them significant both from the universal and Orthodox points of view, and from the historical and archaeological. Vadim Krasnoselsky was told about recent finds - two crosses worn next to the skin, one of which turned out to be wrapped in cloth. A bit earlier it was reported about a fragment of a Tanais ceramic amphora of the Roman period found on the territory of the St. Vladimir bastion.
