The PMR President met with the Russian Ambassador

Meeting of the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Moldova Oleg Vasnetsov was held at the presidential executive office. This is the first contact in 2023. The previous conversation was dated December last year. The agenda was replenished with new issues that require joint work on their solution despite the short period between the two meetings, Vadim Krasnoselsky noted, welcoming the guest.

The topic that remains relevant is the negotiation process in the format of the “Permanent Conference…”. Vadim Krasnoselsky emphasized that he considers "5 + 2" to be the optimal workable platform and expressed hope for the resumption of dialogue in this format that has proven its effectiveness. The PMR President called on all participants, including the Russian Federation, to intensify processes aimed at resuming real negotiations. Vadim Krasnoselsky is convinced that bilateral relations between observers – Russia and Ukraine – should not be projected onto the work of the inherently independent “5+2” format. The President spoke about the importance of dialogue at all levels –  working groups, political representatives, top officials, noting that he does not exclude the possibility of holding meetings of the leaders of the republics.

Oleg Vasnetsov indicated his interest in discussing issues on the negotiation agenda and the desire to solve problematic aspects. He mentioned the meeting of political representatives of Pridnestrovie and Moldova, tentatively scheduled for February 17, as well as the possible visit of an OSCE delegation headed by the new chairman of the European organization.

Speaking about bilateral Pridnestrovian-Russian cooperation, Vadim Krasnoselsky noted that its range is wide and varied: peacekeeping, economics, energy, social and humanitarian contacts, culture, education.

The Russian ambassador noted that he was closely following the events in Pridnestrovie. He said that he got acquainted with the content of the Message of the Pridnestrovian President announced on January 17 to state authorities and administration, having learned important information for building further bilateral relations.

The interlocutors in the course of the meeting mentioned an important historical date: the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Stalingrad is marked today, the victory of the Soviet people in which became a turning point in the course of the Great Patriotic War.
