Flower-laying ceremony and meeting took place in Bendery on the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day

Memorial complex in Bendery on the territory of the Jewish cemetery in memory of the Jewish residents of the city who were shot by the German-Romanian occupiers and who fell on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War was constructed In 2022 on behalf of the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky. Traditional rally, the purpose of which was to pay tribute to the millions of victims and warn future generations against mistakes that could again lead to tragedy, was held here today, on the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day. The President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky was among the participants of the commemorative event.

“The global tragedy called the Holocaust did not passed by Bendery and Pridnestrovie as a whole. A network of camps was created on the territory of present-day Pridnestrovie, in which people of Jewish nationality and Soviet people were placed. You come to the conclusion studying history that this atrocity was allowed to happen: Hitler was allowed to become Hitler, they ingratiated with him, they negotiated with him, not understanding that it is impossible to negotiate with Nazism and fascism. Ultimately, the whole of Europe was covered with a network of concentration camps, where people were killed in gas chambers and their remains were burned in crematoria. It is a fact. It was possible to break the Axis states of Nazi Germany, to overcome what it seemed then like Nazism and fascism only thanks to the feat of the Soviet soldier, the multinational Soviet people, the army, the Soviet Army, in the ranks of which fought Jews, Russians, Ukrainians, and Belarusians – representatives of all nationalities living in the Soviet Union. Time has passed, and we are witnessing how these trends are raising their heads, how someone is again trying to turn a blind eye to Nazi-fascist ideology unfortunately. This is scary. If this continues, then, I am convinced, the same odious people will appear, crazy non-humans capable of new atrocities, new Holocausts, new genocide, and victims will not be avoided. We are all sensible people and understand this. We need to talk about this. We must attend such events, not remain silent, tell the truth about what happened, the historical truth, so as not to repeat the mistakes of the past. The world is on the brink, unfortunately. Eternal memory to those who died - those who were shot, burned, strangled... I would very much like their sacrifice not to be in vain, so that they would be the last in this monstrous list of victims of genocide, extermination of people on a national basis,” noted Vadim Krasnoselsky, addressing participants of the requiem meeting, and all Pridnestrovians in their person, the world community.

The memory of the victims was honored with a minute of silence. The Bendery rabbi voiced the “Qaddish” funeral prayer. Fresh flowers and stones, according to Jewish tradition, were laid at the monument to the victims of the Holocaust.

The flower-laying ceremony took place at the moat of the Bendery fortress, where execution pits were discovered. A memorial sign was erected At the site of the tragedy in 1941.

The President, heads of state authorities and administration of the republic, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Moldova with his wife, representatives of public organizations, Bendery residents and guests of the city lit funeral candles in the Alexander Nevsky Church, located near the fortress citadel.
